Bode’s Galaxies
(Messier 81 + 82)

The sideways-on galaxy M82 to the top right of the frame, is emitting a huge surge of hydrogen deep into space, which could be due to the gravity from M81.

I used a cooled monochrome CCD camera and five filters to capture the light for Bode’s galaxies - red, green, blue, luminance and hydrogen-alpha. The resultant panels, which were combined to create the final picture, looked like this:
