Pinwheel Galaxy (Messier 101)

The Pinwheel Galaxy is 21 million light years from Earth in the constellation of Ursa Major. I love the classic spiral form of this galaxy, proudly presenting itself for its photo. This was taken at a dark site in East Sussex, England. I finally managed to feature the red hydrogen-rich dust lanes in this image. This was a relief as I had struggled so much with the colours that I almost gave up. The red blobs are also hydrogen areas, where stars are being born.
